Finding 100 Little Lights

{Click image for Source}

Sometimes, when there are lots of things piling on top of me I manage to lose my way and not realise I am being particularly grumpy. Other times, at the start, I realise things are going downhill but then more things come at me and it simply happens that I just am.

And I continue to be.

If you’ve ever suffered depression, you might know what I am talking about. Or I might be talking crazy talk (it happens, don’t worry).

James has mentioned that lately I have been particularly depressive. It’s not awesome to hear. In fact, it can be quite disheartening and crushing to hear.

Disheartening but not entirely surprising. I’ve been raw. Struggling to cope. Feeling abandoned. Tired and now sick thanks to my children being so lovingly sharing with their germs. It’s accumulated and now it seems I am buried by the weight. I just didn’t know.

PND can be a dark journey at times and if you don’t find little lights to guide you back to the path or show you there is light at the end of the tunnel it can become ongoing.

This year, I want to find these little lights. I want to seek out those moments that light up my life. I want to always have a little something I can turn to when I feel down in order to lift my mood and maybe, just maybe, find a way to move away from the darkness and into the light. Permanently. One can hope.

Once I’ve found them I want to share them, as well as having them easily accessible for myself when needed I want it to be easy for others who may need a light to find them, too.

A Little Light can be anything that gives you time to breathe, brings a smile to your face, makes you feel refreshed or happy. Here are a few I’ve thought of so far;

Little Lights to help find your way through depression, Positive things to when you're down,

Would you like to help me make a list of Little Lights? I would love to have 100 Lights to share in a couple of months.

  1. Music blaring with a can of Jim beam :) While the kiddies are away of course, if not shut all the
    Blinds in the house and put a movie on, a comedy :)

  2. Go for a walk to a place that you think is beautiful and take your camera with you. Just immerse yourself in taking pictures of nature. Its very, very cathartic.

  3. I’ve never had depression or PND so I cannot begin to understand the difficulty of living under this cloud but I think this is an amazing and proactive thing you are doing. I love both Christy and especially Ash’s suggestions. For me, I’d add:

    * watching a favourite movie or tv series (I love Austen, Anne of Green Gables, Elizabethtown, for example),
    * lighting some fragrant candles around the house,
    * washing my face first thing in the morning and freshening up,
    * doing the one-moment meditation (http://youtu.be/F6eFFCi12v8),
    * buying myself a bunch of colourful or fragrant flowers.

    I’d love to see the 100 lights once you got the whole list together.

  4. What about a funny and light hearted conversation with a friend – meeting them for coffee or on the phone?
    Going for a bit of R&R on your own – get your nails done or hair?

  5. i am sending you lots of light and love – I have/do suffer from depression and it can be quite hard… my pick me ups are connecting, reading blogs, baking… movies are definitely a good one !

  6. Im right here with you. Struggling and in the dark. I wrote about waiting for the light yesterday.

    For me, dancing in the kitchen by myself, to a song I like is a light. It’s one thing that lifts my spirits when I’m as down as I have been.

    I hope you’re ok. It’s hard this road sometimes. Xxx

  7. Sunshine :) . Make sure the house is full of light, let in fresh air if its not too cold, turn on lights if it’s a dull day and whenever possible get outside for even just a few minutes. A pack of chalk on cement will keep the kids amused. Breathe in that fresh air! I’ve always said the world is a better place when the sun is shining. It feels like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders! Also my ‘maintenance’ is exercise. It keeps me level , happy and healthy and the girls LOVE the crèche so it’s win win :)

  8. A spray of my favourite perfume always gives me a huge boost. It seems so decadent to wear good perfume when you are just going out to do the shopping… but it reminds you that you are worth it. :)

  9. I hope you find lots of those little lights this year. I always enjoy a sleep, getting outside, a long bath, a cuddle, a good coffee, prayer.

  10. Some of my little lights *dance around silly (kids being an optional extra – dancing with them makes them smile which always helps)
    *sit outside on the back step or the front step and just breathe
    *write a list of the the I am grateful for at the moment
    *type an uplifting word like ‘love’ or ‘sunshine’ or ‘courage’ into pinterest and enjoy
    * not enough time to watch your have movie? me neither. but checking out the trailers of my faces on youtube can put a smile on my face
    * if possible a walk, just around the block, all by myself. Just to be me (and not mum or mrs) for five mins. Sometimes I walk very slowly :)
    * A nice cup of tea, brewed in a pretty teapot, served in a lovely cup and saucer that is mine only. Serving suggestion with a sweet biccie and a side helping of magazines or catalogues
    *A warm shower with some yummy-scented products, a fresh towel and super comfy clothes to put on afterwards
    *find something interesting to take a photo of

    I think 100 light lights is a great idea, Hope it’s helping x

    • *trailers of my faves not faces :)

  11. Such a beautiful idea Becky , so many great ideas here already.

  12. Oh what a simply beautiful idea. I would love to add to your little lights. And may I add there are some just beautiful ideas here. Thanks so much for highlighting on @DrBron ‘s Post – would never have found it.
    *Walk into a florist and just breathe in and out and pick a large bouquet you would buy if you needed one
    *Send an old-fashioned letter to someone you love with some latest favourite photos printed off (it will make their day) and give you a bit of a glow because you have
    *Light some pretty candles around your lounge at night – you just feel warmer when you do (don’t forget to blow them out before bed)
    *Watch Love Actually – I’m not sure why – but it ALWAYS makes me feel good
    *Pick a brand new glossy magazine you haven’t read before and go and sit in a lovely coffee shop enjoying the peace and the discovery of some new images/stories
    *Go for a long walk along the sea and just look out as far as you can (when the sun sets is quite nice)
    Great idea for a post. Thanks for sharing xx

  13. How are you going with your 100 lights project? Looking forward to your final list. :-)

    Have a lovely day.
